Edupanel Installation and Deployment Guide

This guide takes you from a fresh clone to a running development setup, then to a production deployment on a VPS. It covers all three components: the Django backend, the Next.js dashboard, and the Flutter mobile app. A mid-level developer can follow this end to end.

Prerequisites

Python 3.11 or newer

Node.js 18 or newer and npm

Flutter 3.22 or newer (stable channel) for the mobile app

Redis (only if you want async Celery tasks; optional in development)

A Razorpay account with API keys for payments

Git

Repository Layout

coaching/
├── backend/     Django 5 + DRF REST API
├── frontend/    Next.js 14 admin dashboard
└── mobile/      Flutter teacher + parent app

Step 1 — Backend Setup (Django REST API)

cd backend
python -m venv venv
source venv/bin/activate        # Windows: venv\Scripts\activate
pip install -r requirements.txt
cp .env.example .env

Open
.env
and set at minimum the
SECRET_KEY
. For payments and notifications, also fill in the Razorpay and provider keys (see the environment variables section below).

Step 2 — Database and Demo Data

python manage.py migrate
python manage.py createsuperuser
python manage.py seed_demo

The
seed_demo
command creates one institute, five students, two batches, fee invoices, attendance records, and tests so you can explore a fully populated product right away.

Step 3 — Environment Variables

# Core
SECRET_KEY=change-me-to-a-long-random-string
DEBUG=True
ALLOWED_HOSTS=localhost,127.0.0.1

# Razorpay
RAZORPAY_KEY_ID=rzp_live_xxx
RAZORPAY_KEY_SECRET=xxx
RAZORPAY_WEBHOOK_SECRET=xxx

# Notifications: stub | gupshup | msg91
NOTIFICATION_PROVIDER=stub

# Celery (optional)
USE_CELERY=False
CELERY_BROKER_URL=redis://localhost:6379/0

Keep
NOTIFICATION_PROVIDER=stub
and
USE_CELERY=False
during development so you do not need Redis or live SMS credits. Notifications log to stdout and tasks run synchronously.

Step 4 — Run the Backend

python manage.py runserver

API docs (Swagger):
http://localhost:8000/api/docs/

ReDoc:
http://localhost:8000/api/redoc/

Django admin:
http://localhost:8000/admin/

Demo login after seeding: username
admin_sunrise
, password
Admin@1234
.

Step 5 — Frontend Setup (Next.js Dashboard)

cd frontend
npm install
cp .env.example .env.local

Edit
.env.local
and point it at your backend:

NEXT_PUBLIC_API_URL=http://localhost:8000

npm run dev
# → http://localhost:3000

Make sure the Django backend is running on port 8000 with CORS allowed for
localhost:3000
. Log in with the demo admin credentials above.

Step 6 — Mobile App Setup (Flutter)

cd mobile
flutter pub get

# Android emulator (host loopback)
flutter run --dart-define=API_URL=http://10.0.2.2:8000

# iOS simulator
flutter run --dart-define=API_URL=http://localhost:8000

# Physical device (use your machine's LAN IP)
flutter run --dart-define=API_URL=http://192.168.1.x:8000

For Android, ensure
minSdkVersion 21
in
android/app/build.gradle
for Razorpay. To reach an HTTP backend from a real device during development, add
android:usesCleartextTraffic="true"
to the application tag in the manifest, and remove it for production.

Step 7 — Building for Production

Backend: switch to the production settings module and run with Gunicorn.

pip install gunicorn
python manage.py collectstatic --noinput
gunicorn coaching_backend.wsgi:application --bind 127.0.0.1:8001 --workers 3

Frontend: build the Next.js app for production.

npm run build
npm run start # serves on port 3000

Mobile: build a release APK or app bundle.

flutter build apk --release --dart-define=API_URL=https://api.yourdomain.com
flutter build appbundle --release --dart-define=API_URL=https://api.yourdomain.com

Step 8 — Deploying to a VPS

The repository ships with deployment files under
backend/deploy/
:
gunicorn.service
,
celery.service
,
celery-beat.service
, and
nginx.conf
.

# On the VPS
git clone your-repo.git /var/www/edupanel
cd /var/www/edupanel/backend
python3 -m venv venv && source venv/bin/activate
pip install -r requirements.txt gunicorn
cp .env.example .env   # set DEBUG=False, real SECRET_KEY, ALLOWED_HOSTS, Razorpay keys
python manage.py migrate
python manage.py collectstatic --noinput

# Install systemd units
sudo cp deploy/gunicorn.service /etc/systemd/system/
sudo cp deploy/celery.service /etc/systemd/system/
sudo cp deploy/celery-beat.service /etc/systemd/system/
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl enable --now gunicorn celery celery-beat

# Configure Nginx
sudo cp deploy/nginx.conf /etc/nginx/sites-available/edupanel
sudo ln -s /etc/nginx/sites-available/edupanel /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/
sudo nginx -t && sudo systemctl reload nginx

For HTTPS, install Certbot and run
sudo certbot --nginx -d api.yourdomain.com
. Set
USE_CELERY=True
in
.env
so the daily fee reminders run through the worker and beat scheduler.

Step 9 — Razorpay Webhook

In the Razorpay dashboard, add a webhook pointing to
https://api.yourdomain.com/api/fees/webhook/
, set the same secret as
RAZORPAY_WEBHOOK_SECRET
, and subscribe to payment-captured events. The backend verifies the HMAC signature, marks the invoice paid, and sends the receipt notification.

Verifying the Deployment

Visit
https://api.yourdomain.com/api/docs/
and confirm Swagger loads.

Log in through the dashboard and confirm the JWT refresh flow works.

Run a test payment in Razorpay test mode and confirm the invoice flips to paid.

If you are building software for coaching institutes, tuition centers, or test-prep academies, Edupanel gives you the entire stack on day one. It is a multi-tenant SaaS platform with a Django REST backend, a Next.js admin dashboard, and a Flutter mobile app for teachers and parents. One purchase, one codebase, three working surfaces. You own all of it.

What This Product Does

Edupanel runs the full operational side of a coaching business so the institute can stop juggling spreadsheets and WhatsApp groups. Admins manage batches, students, and staff from a clean web dashboard. Teachers mark attendance and enter test marks in seconds. Parents track their child's attendance percentage, fee dues, and results from a mobile app on their phone.

The platform is multi-tenant from the ground up. Every institute that signs up gets its own isolated data, and a super admin can oversee the whole network. That means you can sell it as a hosted SaaS to dozens of institutes, or deploy a single white-labeled instance for one large academy. The tenant scoping is enforced at the query layer, so an institute admin never sees another institute's data by accident.

Fees are wired to Razorpay end to end. An invoice creates a Razorpay order, the parent pays from the app or dashboard, the webhook verifies the signature, marks the invoice paid, and fires a WhatsApp and SMS receipt automatically. Exam results work the same way: a teacher enters marks, hits publish, and parents get notified.

Key Features

Multi-tenant SaaS architecture with five roles: super admin, institute admin, teacher, parent, and student, each with its own permission boundary.

Batch and student management with admissions, enrollments, and per-batch fee plans.

Attendance tracking including bulk mark-the-whole-batch in one tap and per-student status toggles.

Fee collection with Razorpay, online and offline payment recording, installment plans, and automated receipts.

Exams and results with spreadsheet-style marks entry and one-click publish that notifies parents.

WhatsApp and SMS notifications through a pluggable provider layer (Gupshup or MSG91), with a safe stub mode for development.

Parent dashboard showing attendance percentage, fee dues, and published results for their children only.

Teacher and parent mobile app built in Flutter from a single codebase, role-aware at login.

JWT authentication with automatic token refresh on the web and mobile clients.

Daily fee-reminder automation through Celery and Redis, with a synchronous fallback when you do not want to run a worker.

OpenAPI documentation built in, with Swagger UI and ReDoc out of the box.

Production deployment files included: Gunicorn, Nginx, and systemd units for the API, Celery worker, and beat scheduler.

Who This Is Built For

Edupanel is built for people who want to ship a coaching product, not start a six-month build from scratch.

Edtech founders launching a coaching or tuition SaaS who need a working multi-tenant product to sell to institutes immediately.

Software agencies with a coaching-institute client who want a proven base to customize and ship on a tight deadline.

Coaching institute owners who want their own white-labeled software for attendance, fees, and parent communication instead of paying monthly to a third-party app.

Solo developers and freelancers who want a strong, documented codebase to deliver client projects faster and at a higher margin.

Real-World Applications and Use Cases

A test-prep academy uses the web dashboard to manage twelve batches across two centers, marks daily attendance in bulk, and sends fee reminders automatically every morning. Parents check results the moment a teacher publishes them, which cuts down the front-desk phone calls dramatically.

An agency white-labels Edupanel for a regional tuition chain, swaps the branding to the client's navy-and-gold theme, points it at the client's Razorpay account, and deploys it on a single VPS. The chain runs forty institutes off one super-admin login.

A founder hosts Edupanel as a subscription SaaS, onboards new institutes through the institute-admin registration flow, and charges a monthly fee per institute. Because tenant isolation is built in, every customer is sandboxed on the same deployment.

Why Buy This Instead of Building It

Building a multi-tenant coaching platform with a web dashboard and a mobile app from scratch is a serious project. A capable two-person team is looking at roughly four to six months to reach the feature set Edupanel already ships with: auth, tenant scoping, attendance, Razorpay billing with webhooks, exams, notifications, a full admin dashboard, and a Flutter app. At realistic Indian dev rates that is several lakh rupees in salary or contractor cost, plus the time you lose to going to market.

Edupanel skips that. You get the working codebase today, customize the parts that matter to your buyer, and ship in days instead of months. The money you save on the build goes straight into sales and customization, which is where the actual margin lives. If you need the platform tailored to a specific institute's workflow or branding, our product customization and white-labeling service can take it the rest of the way.

What You Get on Purchase

Full source code for all three components: the Django REST backend, the Next.js admin dashboard, and the Flutter mobile app, in one monorepo.

A demo seed command that creates a sample institute with students, batches, fees, attendance, and tests so you can see the whole product working in one command.

Complete setup and deployment documentation, including the step-by-step installation guide for local development and VPS deployment.

Production deployment files: Gunicorn, Nginx config, and systemd units for the API and Celery services.
